My week started with a big ride on Sunday morning. We had 13 riders show for various distances and paces and I had so much fun. There were three others there doing IMFLA - so it felt great to connect with them. Plus, I made a game of keeping up with Alecia Williams - an amazing athlete and a metronome of speed on the bike.
I'm stealing a friend's amazing poem for my post today. She wrote beautifully about the day.
Biking Benediction by Angela Leonard
Purple morning glories climbing tall green corn
Dusty soybeans
Yellowing, leathery tobacco
Dainty, frothy heads of Queen Anne's lace
Garish concrete yard art
White farmhouses with dim porches
Steeples lifted high
Fuzzy caterpillar crossing the road
Curious donkeys
Whisking horse tails
Brown goats clambering
Roaring buzz of cicadas
Tsssssking crickets
Whirring wheels
Satisfying click of gears
Hissing chains
Shushing wind
While in all this summer, the sulphur butterflies whisper, "Fall."
Yes, we had a flat
But for all of this
What is that?
